Garbage Schedule:

As of July 1, 2010, Signature Waste will be the sole provider for trash services. Two rollout containers are provided to each resident -- one for trash and one for recyclables. Trash pickup is on Wednesdays and Recycle pickup is every other Thursday.

Here are some things to remember when putting your trash out for pick up.

There are three different types of trucks in town until 5:00 p.m. that pick up regular household trash, the recycling and the yard waste.

Yard Waste:  includes brush, tree limbs no longer than 3 ft., and bagged leaves or grass clippings in clear bags.  If using dark bag, leave them untied so contents can be verified. Please limit your piles of tree limbs to a size that is managable for one person to pick up.

Recycling: includes glass, newspaper, magazines, broken down cardboard boxes less than 3 ft., plastic and metal cans.  NO plastic pots, plastic bags, disposable diapers, Tupperware items, Styrofoam or pizza boxes PLEASE!  Shredded paper must be bagged in plastic and is NOT recyclable...it must be put in with regular trash.

Bulky Items:  includes appliances such as refrigerators, stoves, washing machines, furniture, mattresses, etc. must be scheduled for pickup.  Call Signature Waste at 704-714-9400 to schedule a pickup.

Household hazardous waste (HHW): such as tires, oil, paint cans, batteries and empty propane tanks from gas grills can be dropped off at the Foxhole Recycling Center located at 17131 Lancaster Hwy.

Construction/Demolition/Remodeling debris:  including roofing, masonry, flooring and lumber must be removed by contractor as it will NOT be picked up.

Under a new state law that takes effect July 1, televisions and computers and related computer equipment will be banned from landfills in North Carolina.

The electronic waste disposal ban affects computer equipment, including CPUs, laptops, monitors, printers, printer/fax/scan devices, mice and keyboards; and all televisions, including flat-panel televisions, projection televisions and televisions with picture tubes.

Year-round, residents may drop off televisions and computer equipment at no charge to one of the County Electronics Collection Sites. Click for address, hours of operation and more.

Businesses should make arrangements for disposing of their e-waste at one of the Electronics Recyclers E-Waste sites.

The landfill ban on these e-wastes was included in Session Law 2010-67 of the General Assembly, which establishes an electronics recycling program for North Carolina with shared responsibility between manufacturers, retailers, consumers, and local and state government.

More information about the statewide e-waste disposal ban and alternate forms of e-waste management is available at the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
